There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later. Verified Purchase. First, I will say that the author is incredibly talented, and I appreciate the time and energy he has put into the book, the ConDoc systems, and the online tutorials.

If ConDocs works for you then this book would be appropriate and recommended, but it should still be updated as it is now 5 years out of date. Otherwise, this is really a manual for using ConDocs, a paid-for extension for SketchUp. The information in it that is not specific for ConDocs if basic SketchUp tutorials that can be found for much less cost than this book.

The book should really be given to those who subscribe to ConDocs and this book is inaccurately described because if you are not using ConDocs it will not be very helpful. I did try ConDocs for about a month and paid for it, but when I signed up it was advertised that this book would come with it, but that was an old ad and therefore I did not get the book, so I bought it to give ConDocs a fair shot but also because if I didn't want to continue using ConDocs the book would still be useful.

The book also talks about the free version of ConDocs and recommends those tools like perspective tool , but they are no longer available, at least for free. So, if you want to use the book and use any of the previously free features of ConDocs, I don't see how you can because as far as I can tell all versions of ConDocs are subscription-based only. The book should clearly state this is a manual for ConDocs, or otherwise, most of the references and instructions that are ConDocs specific should be removed.

If most of the more advanced and technical lessons of the book can't be done without the ConDocs extension, then it is not fair to sell it than anything other than a ConDocs manual.

This book is a text book for one of my architectural design classes and was super easy to understand whereas some of the AutoCAD books I've used forgot steps which prevented you from the outcome.

Warning: many of the reviews appear to be from the first edition of the book. I would give that edition 5 stars, but only 3 for the second edition. I thought the second edition read like a big advertisement for ConDoc, and did not cover all the great changes to Sketchup since the first edition of the book well enough to warrant buying this edition.

Very more4 difficult or detailed application has a learning curve, and SketchUp is no exception. However, this book has been very helpful in helping me to learn the app with minimum effort.

However two chapters are taken up with file management and choosing a computer. Any professional would already have these things sorted. Much of the rest of the book is dedicated to, and boasts of being the manual for, the ConDoc Tools add-on which by chance the author happens to sell. I feel that I have been slightly misled by the book title. It's now a 3D printable solid model. You can be sure by checking the Entity Info dialog for "Solid".

Of course, your model may need to have a hole or opening in it. Along the way, make sure that all of your white surfaces are facing out and your blue surfaces are facing in. When you click on the paint bucket icon the default tray will appear on the right side of your screen. The default tray contains all the SketchUp textures and is where you can edit the materials to make unique textures. Pick the texture with your model in mind. For example, if you are modeling a castle, you may want to use stone textures rather than a water texture. Once you have chosen your texture type, select the folder and then pick your texture.

You can then go through your model and click on the shapes you want to paint. What makes SketchUp unique, is its ability to integrate 3D modeling into geographic based projects. You can do this by geo-referencing your model in SketchUp and export it into Google Earth.
